MAPPING

Build your own mapping drone, starting with the mission.

A mapping drone needs more than a camera and GPS. It needs consistent image capture, a suitable camera mount, compatible flight software and enough loaded endurance for the site. This preset is a frame concept, not a survey-ready mapping kit.

  1. 01

Define the map before choosing the aircraft

State the site area, subject, required ground detail and how the results will be used. Visual documentation and measured surveys have different requirements. A frame cannot guarantee survey accuracy.

  2. 02

    Plan a downward-facing camera

Typical photogrammetry missions need repeatable ground-facing imagery. The configurator’s standard camera housing is forward-tilted; a nadir mount or other camera package requires custom review. Include the complete camera and mount weight.

  3. 03

Match flight controller, trigger and software

Waypoint missions and camera triggering depend on the actual controller, firmware and software compatibility. Selecting the GPS module in the preview does not add mission planning, RTK positioning or autonomous flight.

  4. 04

    Budget overlap and loaded endurance

Image overlap, speed and capture interval must suit your camera and processing workflow. Check endurance with the intended payload and an appropriate return-and-landing reserve, rather than using unloaded flight-time figures.

  5. 05

    Prototype, check, then validate

Start with the stretched-frame preset below to explore packaging. For custom mounts, RTK requirements or research workflows, book a custom-project call through the site navigation. Final integration and any accuracy claims require testing.

QUESTIONS
Is this a complete DIY mapping drone kit?

No. It is a configurable airframe starting point. Camera, flight controller, software and mapping workflow need separate review.

Does GPS mean the drone has RTK?

No. Standard GPS and RTK are different systems. RTK requires compatible positioning equipment and a correction workflow; it is not included by choosing the GPS mast.

Can the standard camera module look straight down?

Not as shown. Its housing is forward-tilted. Request a reviewed downward mount for a mapping project.
