GUIDE / PAYLOAD

How much weight can a drone carry?

There is no universal drone carrying capacity. The usable payload is the extra weight a specific aircraft can carry within its verified take-off, structural and power limits. A camera, its mount and every cable all count. Our configurable frames do not yet have a verified payload rating.

Payload is not total take-off weight

Take-off weight includes the complete aircraft, battery and everything attached. Payload means the equipment or cargo carried for the mission. Check whether a manufacturer’s quoted weight includes the battery before subtracting anything.

How to calculate a payload budget

Start with the verified maximum take-off weight for the exact aircraft configuration. Subtract the ready-to-fly aircraft weight, including its battery. The remainder is a weight budget, not proof that a particular mount or load is safe.

Worked example — not a rating for our drones

If a hypothetical aircraft has a verified 1,200 g take-off limit and weighs 900 g with its battery, the remaining budget is 300 g. A 180 g camera, 70 g mount and 20 g cable use 270 g of that budget. Balance, clearance and testing still matter.

Thrust alone does not prove carrying capacity

A motor test’s peak thrust is not a safe payload limit. Continuous current, battery voltage under load, motor temperature, frame strength and control margin can impose lower limits. A thrust-to-weight ratio alone cannot certify a build.

Camera payloads and suspended loads differ

A camera mount needs a clear field of view and vibration control. A hanging load can swing and shift the centre of gravity. Release hooks do not increase lift, and carrying a load does not automatically make dropping it lawful.

Bring a measured payload to review

Weigh the complete camera or sensor package with bracket, wiring and accessories. Include its dimensions, power needs and target loaded flight time in your request. Start an H-frame concept below; non-standard payloads belong in a custom-project consultation.

QUESTIONS
Can a custom drone carry 1 kg?

Some aircraft can, but we cannot promise that for these small printed frames. No 1 kg payload capability has been verified for our configurations. Share the load and mission for an engineering review.

Does a bigger battery increase payload capacity?

Not automatically. It adds weight and may change balance, current capability and cooling. The complete aircraft has to be assessed again.

Can the configurator tell me what my drone can lift?

No. It previews frame geometry and module placement, not measured thrust or a certified lifting limit.
